SAN DIEGO – Capt. Max Neue, owner and skipper of the Pacific Voyager out of Seaforth Sportfishing in Mission Bay opposite the Hubbs Sea World Research Institute reported limit-style yellowtail fishing on a 2.5 dayer. Then Saturday the San Diego turned in a 50-fork-tail score on a Full-Day run. It’s on like Donkey Kong, as they say.

Here’s Neue’s update:

“Hey Merit, we had excellent yellowtail fishing this weekend on our 2.5 day. 2 day limits (120) for our 12 angler from 15 to 25 pounds. Great yo-yo fishing along with a couple surface iron fish. We also caught the first bluefin of the season which was about 60 pounds. Plenty of lingcod, reds and big bonito in the mix too.”

Not only are lings and cods open in Mexican waters but the red and ling limits are just like most other fish, 5 per person per day, up to 3 days limits on any given multi-day trip of 3 days or longer.

Further conversations with Capt. Markus Medak, up in Sacramento for the Pacific Fisheries Management Council meeting this past week, indicated the scuttle was the fish were found below Colonet a bit but within 1.5-day range, just barely. Nevertheless, a 2.5-day run gets you into the bite better.

Look for these runs to be offered departing Friday evenings from the San Diego Landings. Returns are typically on Sunday mornings for the 1.5 dayers and Monday mornings for the 2.5 dayers.
