BULLHEAD CITY, ARIZ. –  Lake Mohave anglers are starting to see smallmouth bass move into spawning areas, and while some thought the recent full moon might get the party started, it sounds like they’re going to have to wait a little bit longer.

“Lake Mohave smallmouth have started to move shallow very few beds. This last full moon did not set them off,” said WON BASS pro Mike Huseman of River King Outdoors. “There has been a lot of wind keeping a lot of anglers off the water, so these fish have not been pressured much. Water temps are rising , and we’ve seen them as high as 63 degrees. This week air temperatures look to hit 95 and even 100, and that should really set off the spawn and more fish moving shallow. Lots of big fish are being caught right now as these pre-spawners are eating everything in sight as they get  ready to move up on beds.”

Huseman told Western Outdoor News that the water is very clear (even for Lake Mohave standards) and finesse baits fished ultra slow is what’s working for his guide clients. He also said smallmouth in particular have been jumping on dice baits and Berkley Flatworms on a drop-shot rig, and some bigger fish are being caught on a good ball jigs dragged through grass.

“Many of our clients broke their PBs over the past 10 days,” said Huseman. “Fishing is getting better and better as each day passes. We are also sporadically seeing striped bass, and those are being caught on hair jigs in deep water. We are also seeing suspended bass with these stripers out in the main lake.”

AND HERE’S the other one.
