The annual trip on the Fury is something I am looking forward to and talking about all year. WON’s Fury trips are typically sold out within two weeks of posting them to WONews.com, and they’re are some of the most sought after trips we offer.
This I covered this one which started off with a run to the Cortes Bank. We were briefed on the fishing to be prepared for light line and small hook bluefin fishing. We had a slow burn plunker bite all day for the tuna that were anywhere from 15 to 50 pounds. Big bonito also came into play; drag pullers on Current Snipers; fun stuff.

were among the primary targets.
We had a 14-year-old angler on his first trip longer than half day, and he caught the only yellowtail of our trip. The 25-plus-pound fish that had his spinning setup (and him) screaming. We did some rockfishing before taking off from the banks, sacking up reds, sheephead, grouper and honestly the biggest lingcod I have personally seen.

We opted for leaving the banks behind to move into our zone for the night bite which left us looking all night for schools and never panned out. We woke up at the San Clemente Island for graylight and managed three white seabass, one being a very solid fish stuck by Yong Han.

We bounced around the island bass fishing for the rest of the day, and The MC weedless was getting chewed and got a lot of bigger bites versus the fly-lined bait. Capt. Samuel Rose dubbed this as the “Southern California package trip” where we caught just about everything our fishery has to offer (minus a halibut) for the boat. The Fury seldom has availability, so get on it, call Marcus and get yourself booked. One thing that I was left thinking about was the chemistry this crew has. They work as a cohesive unit and do a killer job…cheers to them.
