VENTURA — This year’s Western Outdoor News-Ventura Harbor Sportfishing-Rockfish Rumble (RFR) “smack down” hits the mat April 2, 2026.
Three boats are slated to join the battle with anglers competing for prizes and some serious cash. Island Spirit, Pacific Eagle, and Californian, will answer the bell at 5:00 a.m. Thursday, heading out to each skipper’s favorite rockfish spots.
The largest rockfish taken and returned to the docks at Ventura Harbor Sportfishing will be in the running for prize money totaling up to $800.00. Each angler will get a goodie bag filled with swag including lures from trip sponsor, Madame Lure.
Scheduled as an early season bout, the 2026 WON-RFR promises to be a real battle royale with plenty of action to look forward to.
“Having the Rumble just two days after rockfish season opens means there will be some huge chances at big fish,” says WON rep, Landon Thomas.

Another great thing about any Western Outdoor News charter is that an editor is on board to take photos and write the story. You could get your picture in the paper with a big fish during the 2026 Rockfish Rumble.
Last year’s champion Anthony Shoatz fished aboard Island Spirit to knock out a 10.2-pound ling cod and win the top prize package: $345.00 cash, Penn carnage III Rod, AFTCO hat, AFTCO $50 gift card, AFTCO 40# fluoro leader, 300-yard spool of Berkley ProSpec mono, P-line Adaro pliers, Costa hat and gaiter!
You too can still get into the fight to take home a share of the prizes and some ridiculously great fish!
