SAN PEDRO – The WON lobster combo trip is one I look forward to all year, and it’s typically the trip we round out the year with that always ends with a bang. Loaded up on the Sport King & Gail Force this year, we were Catalina bound with a majority of lobster combo newbies.

After a short ride to the island, we were fly-lining baits in no time. What caught me off guard were the yellows that showed their faces in our chum-line on the first stop. With no hookups, we moved outside to some deep water rockfishing and proceeded to pick off boccaccio in our next few stops before moving inside to drop our lobster pots.

Anglers on this trip were fishing for top-honors for the biggest lobster pulled between the two boats. The winning angler was headed home with the grand jackpot of $130 cash, an AFTCO gift card and P-line pliers. We pulled hoop nets until about 10 p.m. before we had to head back, and while not everyone was headed home with limits, everyone was going home with something.

One thing I’m already looking forward to is the new facilities LA Waterfront will have next year. On the way out we got to catch a sneak peek at the brand new, state-of-the-art facilities coming in 2026. L.A. Waterfront is getting all new buildings, restaurants, docks, parking lots, the list goes on. Really exciting stuff for our anglers next year!
