SAN DIEGO – We got a call this morning from Bob Woodard at the San Diego Marlin Club, that a boat had pulled in to weigh a large wahoo. It pulled the scale down to 108 pounds!
The boat The Only Child with Captain Tom Ross pulled in Sunday with the big fish. Johannes McElvain landed the big skin on 100-pound tackle while fishing the 9-mile bank west of Point Loma.

In recent weeks wahoo have been abundant enough even party boats have been targeting them with multi-fish success, landing a handful or more each run, as well as a mix of yellowfin tuna, skipjack and yellowtail from waters within 1-day range.
They’ve been running large, but at 108, this is the largest landed so far this season, and the largest landed in California we’ve heard of ever. There is no recorded California state record for wahoo…yet.
