These rail rods offer longer length models and more robust pulling power, helping anglers avoid being undergunned during intense line-peeling encounters.
In recent years, the West Coast has witnessed some of the largest tuna catches in fishery history, with bluefin regularly exceeding 100 lbs. As a result, West Coast anglers have adapted their fishing styles and gear to handle these impressive fish. The reliability of a well-built rod becomes crucial in these situations, where a day on the water can be made or broken when facing finicky hundred-plus-pound bluefin tuna. Recognizing this need, PENN extends its existing Carnage III series with seven more models tailored to the West Coast, particularly the Southern California-specific rail models, designed to handle the diverse techniques required for bluefin fishing.
The four rail rod models are built with a 7’6″ blank, which is sturdier and more powerful, featuring meticulously designed actions optimized for fighting fish on the rail. The Carnage III West Coast models boast SLS3 blank construction, with a very thin diameter that maintains a lightweight feel, perfect for aggressive action when battling formidable big-water species. These rods are equipped with high-end components, such Fuji HB-series guides, ensuring flawless performance, improved casting, and reduced friction during fish combat. To enhance comfort and functionality, PENN completes these workhorse rods with Sea-Guide aluminum reel seats and custom Hypalon and rubber shrink tube handles.
The entire West Coast series also includes boat models that cater to a wide range of needs, allowing West Coast anglers to select rods ranging from 80 lb sinker rig models to heavier, longer, and general-purpose lengths, accommodating various styles of offshore fishing.
