TURKEY TRIUMPH!: Opening week success

FANCY NANCY— This opening day turkey bagged by Nancy Rodriguez in Placer County near Auburn came with a side of chantrelle mushrooms she foraged up that day.

PAUL MORITZ scored this turkey in the mountains east of San Diego and told WON, “A window of good weather had turkeys gobbling and roaming, and this gobbler ran around out of range most of the day. Jakes and hens stayed nearby for hours. At 3 p.m., this old Rio Grande decided to strut right in front of me, well over 100 yards away. A half hour later, the Tom slowly made his way to under 40 yards. One well-placed shot put him down.”
