I was stalking what looking like a pretty decent buck that was obviously in fit and chasing a doe. I was on a hillside laying flat in grass and the buck and several deer were feeding in the gully down below. The buck was partially concealed by brush by the doe was a clean shot at 55 yards, and with an either sex tag, it would have been a tag filler. However, the buck made that mistake to come out towards the doe and it was all I needed.

I got up on one knee, nocked a Blackout X5 Envy shaft tipped with a 100 grain Muzzy broadhead and drew back my 65-pound Blackout bow and framed the big buck between the 50- and 60-yard pins. I let the arrow fly and watched as it made a vital kill shot. The buck stumbled and then bolted up the far hillside. I sat there for about 20 minutes, shaking with anticipation because it was, without a doubt, the largest antlered deer I had ever shot.

I was only hoping it was a quick kill. And it was. I trekked down into the gully where the deer was standing. No blood, as can be expected sometimes. As I looked up the hillside and scanned the ground for blood signs, I was almost fell over with my excitement, for he was laying on his side approximately 40 yards from where I struck it with the arrow sticking straight up.
