ARROYO GRANDE – Just when West Coast anglers started to feel fall in the air for the first time, the vast population of Lopez lake started to act accordingly.
“Fall transition has bait from the surface down to 25 feet all over the lake,” said Doug Rice of RGS Guide Service (RGSFish.com). “Reaction baits including deep cranks, spinnerbaits, A-Rigs and half-ounce jigs get down quick to target bass underneath bait. Bass are schooled up in open water, and shaking a heavier minnow works mid-water column. Crappie are on flats but running very small. Redear and crappie are out on channel edges as well in 14 to 20 feet of water chewing mealworm on a drop-shot rig.”
