McGee Creek Lodge survives big fire at end of 2025 season, good to go for 2026
Already a premier full-service resort for Eastern Sierra anglers, Convict Lake never stops improving, and they are once again locked and loaded for the upcoming trout opener.
Prior to last season Convict Lake Resort (CLR) added five new pontoon boats in addition to the existing fleet that includes the cushy new Barletta “tri-toons.”. Cabins got a makeover (if not remodeled), and once anglers were able to take advantage of private stocking of premium rainbow trout purchased by the resort itself along with a full schedule of DFW stocking over the course of the season.
All that remains the same, heading into 2026.
McGee Creek Lodge (MCR) was acquired by CLR ownership a few years ago adding another lodging option. Three more units were added at MCR prior to last season for a total of eight rooms, three cabins and two studios (with hot tubs). The perfect place to stay for Crowley Lake anglers well as those hitting Convict, Hot Creek, the upper Owens River, Mammoth Lakes and points beyond, MCR also sports a parking lot with plenty of room for boats.

MCGEE CREEK LODGE is now effectively an extension of Convict Lake Resort creating even more versatile lodging options for area anglers.
Convict Lake boasts arguably the top-ranked scenery among all drive-up lakes in the region. While the fishing speaks for itself after nearly a century of drawing anglers from all over the state, what flies under the radar is the laundry list of amenities available on site. For that, there really is nothing on the east side that compares.
Convict stands among the most-popular fishing spots during the Eastern Sierra Trout Opener (April 25) and again, Berkley rep Fred Hicks will be on site helping anglers rig up, bait up and fill stringers at Convict.

As for lodging at Convict Lake Resort, there are 31 cabins and three large lodges that are far from rustic. They’re fully-furnished and feature fully-equipped kitchens, propane grills, microwaves, even free WiFi and DirectTV; all the comforts of home when it comes down it. In the luxury cabins and houses – depending on which one you get – next-level features include an outdoor hot tub, washer, dryer, robes, even a steam shower. Really roughin’ it.
There’s a classy lounge and fine-dining (legit fine dining. Don’t take my word for it, check out convictlake.com/fine-dining) on site along with standards like a general store, gift shop, boat rentals and horseback rides. Tent and RV camping is also available just across the creek from Convict Lake Resort. A food-truck-type trailer is up and running in front of the store for more casual fare including BBQ sandwiches, “boar sausages” and monstrous breakfast burritos. Food is also available at the Restaurant’s bar if a more casual setting is desired.
