LAKE ISABELLA – Some impressive largemouth bass catches are being made Lake Isabella including at least one double-digit model at a time of a year anglers most-familiar with the lake expect exactly that to happen. Cope’s Tackle and Rod Shop in Bakersfield is reporting that the lake is currently 57% full, and the best bass action is being found in the North Fork through the Cemetery area. Details of that wallhanger were sent directly to Western Outdoor News by the lucky angler.

“At about 9 a.m. in the South Fork, I pulled up to a spot where there were a couple of bass boats catching 1 to 2 -pound bass on every cast with plastic worms,” said long-time WON reader, Eric Sandifer. “I put on a shad crankbait, and on my first cast I hooked a 12 -pound bass. Great fight, took out a lot of line before I landed it.”

Cope’s staffers are saying along with crankbaits, jerkbaits, Flukes, jigs, Senkos and craws are all in play, and rocky areas have been especially productive. Chatterbaits and swimbaits are getting some reaction bites early and late.
