SAN CLEMENTE— It’s getting to the point it’s time to start wondering how could there possibly be more ways to innovate tackle storage solutions. Somehow Plano always manages to, and one of their latest achievements isn’t along the line of a tackle bag with features no one has seen before. Instead, it’s vastly improving a long-running product line that is likely more widespread than anything the legacy company has ever made.
Statistically, 4 out of every 5 tackle boxes out there is a Plano product, and it’s safe to say the number of anglers out there who make use of Plano StowAway utility trays make up a huge portion of that 80 percent market share.
Admittedly, when I first saw the announcement that these boxes had become available, I was bracing myself for a lofty price tag. In recent years, many tackle storage manufacturers seem to have gravitated toward the Gucci route with their new gear, and that includes tackle trays well upward of $20 each.
That’s not the case with the new StowAways. I was shocked to see the MSRPs range from $7.99 to $9.99 (on the non-waterproof models) making them very accessible and very easy to level-up an angler’s tackle organization for a modest investment. Oh, and they’re also proudly made in the USA.
The new Plano StowAway incorporates the best features of its original StowAway series along with a variety of advancements to meet the evolving needs of anglers. To keep anglers more organized, Plano has incorporated pre-cut, rigid dividers for easy setup that prevents tackle migration between compartments, as well as extra divider slots to efficiently organize tackle. The new StowAway also includes a single-latch closure for one-handed access with a built-in labeling area to easily identify tackle. Plano has also incorporated its Rustrictor technology that flows throughout the box to help prevent rust and corrosion from damaging expensive tackle.
“For years, Plano has focused on delivering the best organization solutions to help anglers get the most out of their time on the water,” said Matt Kosko, Sr. Product Manager for Plano. “With the new Plano StowAway, we set out to redefine one of the most recognizable products on the market. The new Plano StowAway was developed through years of extensive feedback from freshwater and saltwater anglers across the country, culminating in a product with best-in-class features that anglers need most. Not only is the new StowAway packed with features, but it comes at an incredible value.”
The new Plano StowAway is available in both Standard and Waterproof formats. In addition to Standard features, Plano Waterproof StowAway utility boxes feature a Dri-Loc seal to protect tackle in wet conditions, as well as an ultra-clear, rigid lid that enhances both visibility and durability. The new Plano StowAway is available in common 3700, 3600, and 3500 utility box sizes. Plano StowAway utility boxes are proudly made in the USA.
