Since its launch, the Umarex Origin .22 became a go-to air rifle for those just getting into pre-charge pneumatic (PCP) shooting, target shooting, small game hunting and its even found a home in the kits of preppers and survival enthusiasts.
Umarex hit the mark as far as its core goal to maximize shooting while significantly reducing pumping time. Per Umarex.com, “the patented pre-pressurized tank is pressurized for a full-power shot with only 13 pumps from the included 3-stage, 4,500 PSI hand pump. It’s the Ever Pressure Tank System that makes it possible to fill the air cylinder with fewer pumps. To completely fill the Origin’s tank, it only requires about 100 pumps, half of the pumps required of comparable PCP rifles with a similar air cylinder volume.”
The Umarex Origin .22 accepts a respectable range of optics, has a 10-shot magazine and dials it up t0 1,100 FPS (with an 11.9 grain pellet). It’s a quality product that packs everything a shooter needs to enter the world of PCP shooting for under $400 which is another reason this rifle skyrocketed in popularity so quickly. While revered as an “entry level PCP rifle” the Origin has a lot of features of higher end air guns including but not limited to that scope rail, a rifled barrel and an adjustable trigger.
The Umarex Origin’s bolt is a smooth operator that won’t move forward when the magazine is empty, the pump is easy to use and the tank can “store” pressure indefinitely so the rifle can be stored with a full charge.
The Origin can be purchased without the pump (primarily for shooters who already own one), but without it, it would have to be filled in an industrial setting (think SCUBA shop). A baker’s dozen pumps is enough for a full-power single shot, but a completely charged tank can deliver up to 40 accurate shots.
