Trokar #2 Pro-V Finesse
These have a longer shank that results in a bigger “bite” of the hook, and some anglers like to add super glue to the top of the shank leading up to the eye to keep the bait in place and maintain that space between the urchin and the bend/point of the hook. This has been a go-to method specifically for those drop-shotting these new baits.
Trokar #4 3x EWG Treble
Treble hooks might be the most common way to rig an urchin bait. The #4 Trokar EWG is big enough to handle the larger versions of these baits that recently were unveiled at ICAST (baits like the Strike King Mag Tumbleweed). It’s quick to rig, and also leaves plenty of hook exposed for easy, dependable hooksets.
Trokar 2/0 – 3/0 Frog Hook
Another innovative method of hooking urchins is running a Trokar Frog Hook through the hole built in to almost all urchin-style baits. That also results in a huge bite while maintaining a more natural presentation than a treble hook. That being said, it may be the top option for finicky bass in clear water.
