Built on an iconic legacy of in-house product design engineered by top anglers and proven worldwide.

Okuma Fishing Tackle has officially launched its 40th-anniversary celebration, marking four decades of growth, innovation, and dedication to anglers around the world. What began in Taichung, Taiwan, in 1986 as a specialized machining workshop has grown into a globally respected fishing tackle brand, trusted by anglers in more than 90 countries and counting.

From the beginning, Okuma’s vision extended beyond manufacturing products for others. The company was committed to building its own brand by understanding anglers’ needs and maintaining direct control over product development—a philosophy that continues to drive its success today.

To commemorate the historic milestone, Okuma has produced a special anniversary film, Rising with Every Challenge, which highlights three pillars that define the company. The first, In-House Production, showcases Okuma’s vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities and commitment to quality. Co-Create focuses on the brand’s close collaboration with professional anglers and industry partners to develop innovative, real-world solutions. The third pillar, Education, reflects Okuma’s dedication to growing the sport of fishing while promoting conservation and stewardship of aquatic resources.
As part of the celebration, Okuma will unveil a limited-edition 40th Anniversary Commemorative Reel at ICAST 2026 in Orlando, Florida, this July. Inspired by the connection between anglers and the water, the reel features a striking design that symbolizes the brand’s enduring passion for fishing. The launch will be supported by global marketing campaigns, social media initiatives, and community giveaways.

Innovation has always been at the heart of Okuma’s success, earning the company numerous international accolades, including the 2018 iF Design Award for the EPIXOR XT, the 2024 iF Design Awards for the INSPIRA and TESORO LDJ, and the 2025 Good Design Award for the TENMA. Recent years have also seen Okuma’s product development efforts recognized at ICAST, with category-winning products spanning both fly fishing and saltwater lure segments.

Flagship product families such as the offshore-focused MAKAIRA series, the INSPIRA and EPIXOR XT spinning reels featuring Torsion Control Armor (TCA) technology, and the lightweight, high-performance HAKAI baitcasters exemplify the company’s engineering-driven approach to tackle design.

Okuma’s commitment extends beyond product development. The company’s Taiwan headquarters is home to the Okuma Center, the world’s first fishing-themed experience factory. Through educational exhibits, conservation-focused programming, and interactive experiences, the facility helps introduce visitors of all ages to fishing while promoting environmental awareness and marine stewardship.
Reflecting on the company’s journey, Chairman and Founder Charles Chang said, “Okuma’s success has been built on manufacturing excellence, long-term vision, and an unwavering commitment to sustainable growth over short-term gains. With continued investment in innovation, a deep respect for our heritage, and a commitment to serving anglers around the world, we are optimistic about the opportunities that lie ahead.”

As Okuma enters its fifth decade, the company sees significant growth opportunities across the United States, Europe, Latin America, and Oceania. Through continued investment in innovation, strategic partnerships, and a steadfast commitment to anglers, Okuma remains focused on advancing fishing tackle technology and supporting the sport for generations to come.
