SUTCLIFFE – The water temperatures are turning cold, and winter storms have been rolling through, and its quality over quantity right now at Pyramid Lake. J.D. Richey of Richey Sport Fishing said, “The water temperature has dropped from 46 to 48 degrees, and the overall bite has slowed down, but we are still coming up with quality cutthroats. The fish have been found on the surface and as deep as 45 feet with GRatt’s plugs, Yakima’s Mag Lips, or Rapalas in the top 10 feet. We caught and released a 16-pound Lahontan on Friday at 35 feet in 70 feet of water on a GRatt. It’s a matter of taking advantage of the days when we can fish since this weekend storm brought high winds to the region.”
Shaun Rainsbarger of Shaun’s Guide Service received an invite from Brad Bugica of Captain Brad’s Fishing Charters, and after launching at 7:30 am in the fog, they trolled close to the ramp for 6 quality Lahontan cutthroats to 18 pounds. The big fish came on a Chub Pattern M2 Flatfish in 10 feet of water as we stayed shallow throughout the morning.”
The launch ramp at Popcorn Beach is currently closed, and it most likely will not reopen.
