L.A. Waterfront Sportfishing and Cruises

L.A. Waterfront Sportfishing is located in San Pedro within Ports O’ Call Village, adjacent to the famous San Pedro Fish Market and Restaurant. Affectionately known simply as “Peterson’s” for years within the industry, L.A. Waterfront is the new name for L.A. Harbor Sportfishing. The landing was put back in operation and revitalized by friends who grew up crewing the Sport King under Jim Peterson’s mentorship years ago. Nowadays, Capt. Bruce Root owns and operates the Sport King. Most trips out of this landing focus on fishing at Catalina Island on a ¾-day time frame. L.A. Waterfront Sportfishing is also home to the limited-load private charter boats Triton and Gail Force. They occasionally post open-party trips, but their focus is on full-day private charters fishing Catalina Island and Lobster/Fishing Combo trips in the Fall and Winter. Capt. Ryan Gengler owns the Gail Force and Triton and Capt. Danny Salas owns the landing and several harbor cruise vessels. At Catalina Island, the target this season is its abundant yellowtail, along with all the more usual species like calico bass, sheephead, whitefish, barracuda, bonito and rockfish.
