Two tons of trout to be stocked in February

ESCONDIDO – A spike in big catfish activity rang in the arrival of February in San Diego County, and that was topped off by a lake record blue cat bagged at Dixon Lake. That fish was caught by Elliot Berqust, and after it tipped the dock scale at 69.04 pounds, lake officials called it the “unofficial” lake record for catfish. After a couple photos, the fish was successfully released.

Trout Cove, Whisker Bay and the Buoy Line remain the top spots for trout which are still being stocked on a regular basis. A 1,000-pound trout plant arrived on February 5, another 2,000 pounds are scheduled to go in on February 12 and a total of 4,000 pounds are slated for delivery in February. Lake officials said bluegill have also been active at Dixon, particularly in Jack Creek Cove, but hitting any patch of tules can be productive.
