Here we come! The 2021 Western Outdoor News Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot is approaching very quickly, slated for Nov. 3-6. Myself and the crew at WON have been in contact with all involved, both here in the states and down in Cabo, to keep things rolling along for a smoothly run and incredibly fun tournament. There have been some concerns with a recent Covid spike in the Cabo San Lucas region. We have paid close attention so here’s what we have for an update for you. As of this writing there has been a 60 percent reduction in positive Covid cases from the previous week. The Health Department has lifted some of the restrictions. The Malecon is open once again and restaurants are now open until 11 p.m. The great news is that 80% of the population from age 18 and up have at least had their first vaccination, so we are looking pretty good for a regular non-Covid party-filled 2021 event! Just in case there is an issue we will still have an excellent “Plan B” in the wings to host the tournament.

Entries are starting to come in and people are already booking their stay at the Tesoro Hotel. Don’t forget to book before Oct. 15 and use the promo code TUNAJACK2021 for your $90 per night stay (taxes not included), as the hotel will have this special deal good for dates from Oct. 29 through Nov. 11 for the WON Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot. Our event schedule is up online at loscabostunajackpot.com and in this special event supplement. We advise that teams please utilize the Tuesday (Nov. 2) early pre-sign / registration from 1 – 4 p.m. There will be some great product raffled off to “early bird” teams that register ahead of time on Tuesday. This will surely help with the main registration sign ups on Wednesday, so please try to make that effort to get it done early!

We have added some new rule changes to eliminate any grey area within the event, so please take the time to read them as all teams are responsible for knowing and following them. These are not big changes and they were added to eliminate any grey areas to keep the rules easy to understand for all. Pat McDonell has done an unbelievable job with this event over the years and we would never consider turning things upside down — they are just about perfect the way they are thanks to his efforts over a long period of time directing this event. Pat may not be at the event(s) but he is always willing to give us some great insight whenever we may need it!

Myself and the entire WON tournament staff are looking forward to seeing the old and meeting all the new teams for this tournament as it looks very promising to be the biggest Cabo Tuna Jackpot ever! I will be down in Cabo by Oct. 27 to have everything in order and to also sample some of the fishing before I get too busy while I’m there running the event.
