CONVICT LAKE, CROWLEY LAKE — the opening day snow didn’t miss Convict Lake, but it was eerily sheltered from the wind making fishing surprisingly manageable on Opening Day despite all the white stuff. FLoating baits did the most damage for shore anglers, and the hot areas were up the trail from the Hangman Tree, the South Shore and of course, the Inlet. Wind pushed a lot of boaters off Crowley by 10 a.m., but most of them had good numbers of trout by then. Trolling Berkley Flicker Shads, Tasmanian Devils and Thomas Buoyants was the way to go. Bait dunkers had a slowish pick on rainbows, but it was steady enough to put together a limit. Staffers said the “cleaning station was a zoo in the afternoon.”
BRIDGEPORT AREA — Bridgeport Reservoir is well stocked, full and wide open. Trout to 6 pounds being caught with both bait fishing and trolling most productive around Rainbow Point. Upper and Lower Twin Lakes are well stocked with trophy rainbows and DFW trout and that means a lot of limits are coming out. A few bigger browns to 10 pounds also showing up to trollers. Robinson Creek stocked with Twin Lakes Trout Foundation trophy fish, and they have been biting with anglers checking in with 3- to 5-pound rainbows.
Road to Virginia Lakes open, and if predicted storms bring snow, ice fishing could continue for a short time. Good idea to check on conditions before heading out. East Walker River now open to angling with a daily two-fish limit, 18 inches or larger.
