COLORADO RIVER (BELOW DAVIS DAM)– A WON reader sent a photo of a 12.2-pound largemouth caught from this zone, but that’s about as much as we have as far as the location. We do know it ate a simple 4-inch paddletail on a leadhead, and the angler was camping near the river for his birthday. Striped bass fishing in this area seems to have slowed, and only smaller models are biting. Numbers were good a couple weeks ago (fish still small for the most part) so expect it to bounce back. Smallmouth bass fishing has been good in the Parker area for guys working crankbaits and even buzzbaits early in the mornings.
LAKE HAVASU– Over 100 teams absolutely piled up striped bass over two days, and as usual, the overwhelming majority of them were caught on anchovies. That being said, there were plenty of jerkbaits, swimbaits, spoons and troll rigs on the deck of most of the boats that came in, so there was some tactical diversity in the mix. Look for full coverage of the event in the next issue of WON.
